Under the general direction of the Infrastructure Lead, you will take a leadership role in the planning, design, and implementation of corporate IT networks. Must be technically knowledgeable in routing, switching, wireless, firewalls, load balancing, segmentation, and network security principles. Will have visionary thinking skills related to on-premises and cloud network architecture, that will achieve Manitoba Hydro's objectives for security, availability, and performance. The individual must also be able to effectively establish collaborative relationships with other areas of the Digital & Technology business unit, business clients, and vendors.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with D&T Business Partnership and business stakeholders to provide architectural consulting expertise for new projects and technologies being introduced to the corporate network.
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to develop, maintain, and promote technology standards, technical capability, guidelines, guardrails, and enterprise reference architectures.
- Play a lead role in the technical implementation of corporate network segmentation for new and existing workloads.
- Provide level III support to other members of the Network Management team during problem resolution.
- Participate as a subject matter expert on IT projects related to network infrastructure.
- Design network infrastructure which focuses on addressing availability, performance, and security.
- Maintain the network technology roadmap that addresses short and long term goals.
- Collaborate with other architects to design, plan, evaluate and recommend network technology solutions that are compliant with enterprise standards and are compliant with business strategies.
- Communicate network architecture capabilities to technical and business stakeholders.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, technologies, and best practices related to network management and advocate process
- improvement opportunities to management and staff accordingly.
- Take a lead role in organizing and coordinating large system changes and technical upgrades.
- Develop strong working relationships with industry contacts.
- Ensure that initiatives and projects initiated within the network management area align with department, division and corporate strategic goals.
Qualifications:
Four year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from a university of recognized standing plus five years of experience directly related to network architecture;
OR
Two year diploma in Computer Technology from an institute of recognized standing plus seven years of experience directly related to network architecture.
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) considered an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of network segmentation within a brownfield network environment.
- Demonstrated understanding on network security concepts and network security control points.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols (e.g., IPSEC, HSRP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, 802.11, QoS)
- Comprehensive and current knowledge of network hardware/software.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud networking architecture and design.
- Advanced level skills in configuring/troubleshooting major hardware vendor technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, plan, control and make decisions related to the selection and implementation of network infrastructure.
- Thorough knowledge of network traffic flows and patterns.
- Experience working with large IT projects where multiple stakeholders are involved.
- Experience designing and implementing technology solutions in a brownfield network environment.
- Proven ability to transform business requirement into IT solutions that align with existing strategies and goals.
- Ability to deliver on multiple project initiatives that have conflicting deadlines and priorities.
- Demonstrated understanding of change management procedures.
- Understanding of governance, compliance, and security standards.
- Thorough understanding of server, databases, and web services.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to keep up to date with current technology.
- Prepared to work overtime and participate in an on-call rotation when required.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The range for the classification is $46.06-$63.60 Hourly, $88,269.22-$121,866.94 Annually.
